YouLead Summit Corporate Participation Call 2023
Theme: Youth Empowerment through Capacity Building: Revitalizing Youth Voice and Agency towards the Africa We Want.
Date: 20th-24th November 2023
Africa’s largest youth leadership forum, YouLead Summit beckons us on the horizon! Since 2017, the YouLead Summit has been jointly annually convened by the East African Community (EAC), MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation (MSTCDC) and other partners in Arusha Tanzania through their youth engagement initiatives –the EAC Youth Ambassadors Platform and YouLead Africa – Africa Youth Leadership Program respectively. H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, former President of Tanzania is YouLead Africa’s current Patron.
This year in Nairobi, Kenya, by the choice of the young people, the annual climax event will bring together continental, regional and national policymakers together with youth leaders, private sector and NGO stakeholders with the aim of crafting homegrown, solution-based approaches to resolve the most pressing youth development issues.
About the theme
Knowledge is the tool that can transform Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. Notwithstanding the fact that African countries have, over the past five years, made several strides forward in the areas of people-centered development, gender equality and youth empowerment, reduction in the number of conflicts, renewed economic growth and social indicators, sustaining these efforts has always been and remains a work in progress.
Towards achieving these aspirations, the young generation should be equipped with diverse skill sets and knowledge that align and speak to shifting geopolitics, the evolution of commerce, the ongoing digital revolution, and increasingly important capacities like post-conflict reconstruction, climate justice, leadership development, and public policy advocacy. With this newly acquired or improved capacity, Africa’s young people will be able to marshal their individual and collective efforts toward a common development agenda. Their enhanced understanding of their roles as young people, women, communities, and marginalized groups will hasten the crafting and delivery of Africa-led solutions, , towards the Africa We Want.
The aftermath of the Summit will shepherd emerging development and investment opportunities in the areas of human capital development, entrepreneurship, public infrastructure, and policy alternatives. All these are inspired by the African Union Agenda 2063 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Under YouLead Africa’s popular programmatic pillars, exciting forums will be held through interactive and participatory approaches.
We invite organisations/companies to apply to come on board for the 2023 YouLead Summit.

Application Call for Consultant Data Analysis Expert
About the Youth Democracy Dialogue Project
YouLead Africa, a joint initiative of the MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation and the East African Community, has recently secured a grant from the US Embassy to Tanzania to conduct Youth Democracy Dialogues across the country. The objective of the program is to convene, define, curate, and share findings on the kind of democracy Tanzanian youth desire for their country. This project builds upon ongoing Positive Youth Development (PYD) work and previous support from the US Embassy Tanzania to MS Training Centre for Development Cooperation (MS TCDC), specifically to the YouLead Africa program and the YouLead Consortium of youth-led and youth-serving organisations in Tanzania.
The Youth Democracy Dialogue Project has been carried out since November 2022, and a series of dialogues were convened in Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, the Lake Region, the Kilimanjaro Region, the Southern Highlands Region, and the Southern Region. The selected youth participants had a platform to debate and define democracy and address the knowledge gap on the status of democracy in Tanzania. The outcome of these dialogues will be a detailed report (A White Paper) that analyzes knowledge needs, gaps, and recommendations for the government. The White Paper will be submitted to both the Zanzibar government and the URT leadership, taking into account the fact that Zanzibar has its own semi-autonomous government and has the authority to handle non-union matters, including issues pertaining to young people.

Additionally, they must have a deep understanding of the socio-political context, and economic climate dynamics in Tanzania, which is essential for making informed decisions and developing recommendations that are relevant and impactful within the local context. Overall, hiring a Tanzanian consultant ensures that the project benefits from localized insights, expertise, and networks, leading to greater project success and sustainable outcomes within the Tanzanian context.

Lead(H)er Fellowship Call for Curriculum Development Consultant- Politics and Governance
About Lead(H)er Fellowship
Lead(H)er, which stands for “She is a Leader, " is an African-led Fellowship for young women up to 25 years old from Africa. The Fellowship, structured in three pillars namely Politics, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Peace and Security, aims at supporting young women with a fervid passion and creativity in these fields, while increasing their awareness of legal and regulatory frameworks, feminist principles, and intersections to the gender equality agenda, including climate justice and digital rights.
In 2022, the first edition of the Fellowship was successfully implemented with 36 young women from Malawi, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, South Sudan, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Namibia, Lesotho, Ethiopia and Uganda. In 2023, the implementing partners, namely YouLead/MS-TCDC, AU Office of the Youth Envoy and Plan International MEESA are expanding the geographical scope to include young women from Mozambique and Lebanon.
The Fellowship is structured in four main modules, with sub-modules being developed and reviewed based on feedback and participatory approaches with the Fellows.
- The first module aims at building a safe space and increasing awareness of the Fellows on Gender Equality and Feminist Principles. This module, delivered completely virtually, includes sessions on Legal and Regulatory Frameworks, Digital Rights and Safety, and Climate Justice.
- The second module, delivered virtually, is dedicated to each of the pillars composing the Fellowships. Each fellow selected under the respective pillar will undergo the sessions dedicated to increasing familiarity and awareness of the different thematics. In the field of politics, the sessions include Understanding Governance and Electoral Processes, International Relations and Diplomacy, Media and Politics. The pillar of Business and Entrepreneurship unpacks key trade and investment policies, including microeconomics and macroeconomics, theoretical economic models, and understanding of entrepreneurship, including modalities to build and sustain businesses and how to develop a business model and plan. The pillar of Peace and Security intersects the knowledge provided in the pillar of Politics and includes Early Warning and Conflict Resolution, as well as Mediation and Resolution tools.
- The third module, intended to be delivered in person, aims at bringing together the Fellows and to be accompanied by mentors to develop their action plan on how to scale up the learnings provided by the Fellowship. Critically, fellows will engage in action planning through action workshops embedded in cross-cutting themes of Climate change, Conflict resolution, and adopting a human rights-based approach to their interventions at community, national and regional levels.
These interventions vary from drafting an advocacy plan of action for political participation, to strategically positioning a young woman’s business to benefit from Africa Continental Free Trade Area to strengthening collective action for peace and security concerns. At this stage, Fellows will be provided with the support needed to unlock their creativity and be practically guided on the steps needed to transform their ideas into realities in their respective communities and countries.
The sessions with mentors are complemented by joint sessions with all Fellows aiming at strengthening solidarity, as well as feminist awareness. Sessions include self-care, self-defense, meditation, and creative story-telling, among others.
To better support their ideas, it is the aim of the third module to support fundraising to acquire the needed capital to sustain or initiate their plans. The fundraising session is complemented by seed grants that will be provided to each fellow.
